Vaqueros Sweep LA Pierce for Fifth Straight Win
The No.6-ranked Santa Barbara City College women's volleyball team (15-1, 5-0) continued its dominant run with a 3–0 sweep (25–3, 25–7, 25–21) over LA Pierce College (4–6, 1–4) on Wednesday night in Los Angeles.
The Vaqueros' efficiency was on full display, hitting .327 as a team and posting 42 total kills on 107 attempts. Morgan Guardado led the attack with nine kills, three service aces, 15 digs, and 18 assists, while Stephanie Groswirt added eight kills and 22 assists in a well-balanced performance. Juliette Dekker chipped in nine kills, and Sarah Guzman tallied four kills and two aces.
Head coach Kat Niksto said the team's main focus going into the match was to "play our game and focus on limiting our unforced errors." She praised her leaders as well, noting that "Steph and Morgan have shown a lot of leadership this week throughout practices and the game tonight. Their willingness to do whatever is best for the team has been a huge asset for us."
Niksto added that the team's success on the road comes from consistency: "We focus on routine and mindset. It doesn't matter if we are playing on the road or at home, our goals are the same and our preparation is the same."
The Vaqueros return home Friday, Oct. 17, to face Allan Hancock College at 6 p.m. inside UCSB's Robertson Gymnasium in another key conference matchup. It's also the Dig Pink Night to help raise funds to support the local Breast Cancer Resource Center in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
